Our preliminary results show that the motion simulator operates in a range that is expected for truck driving which provides an excellent opportunity to continue research in a simulated laboratory environment where we can accurately measure vibration and control for many additional variables. When measuring the mean frequency exposure during our preliminary testing, the hands and chest both experienced decreased vibration.
- Exposure to vibration (whole body and hand-arm) is a significant work-related mechanism of injury
Purpose: To determine how OpusGel can reduce overall vibration exposure (whole body vibration and hand-arm vibration) to participants during simulated truck driving
*We are currently testing the vibration dampening properties during hand-arm vibration in power tool use
Methods:
- Truck driving simulator
- Wireless accelerometers (Delsys Trigno Wireless EMG sensors, Delsys, Boston, MA)
- Hands
- Feet
- Chest
- Seat
- When measuring frequency exposure during our preliminary testing, the hands and chest both experienced decreased vibration
Amplitude and frequency analysis ongoing
- ISO standards suggest data reporting of the frequency-weighted root mean square accelerations, and the vibration dose value expressed as an 8-hour equivalent
- We will be able to provide results expressed as the ISO recommendations
